The 2017 hurricane season officially began on June 1st and will last through November 30th. Phil Klotzbach, a research scientist at Colorado State University's Tropical Meteorology Project, is predicting 11 named Atlantic storms this year with four reaching hurricane status and two of those storms being a Category 2 or higher hurricane. As we have seen in the past, it only takes one significant storm to wreak havoc in the Sunshine State.
In preparation for this year's hurricane season, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has requested FMHA's assistance in educating its members on how to do business with FEMA. Shelter is a high priority following a natural disaster and FEMA wants to ensure that home producers, retailers, community owners, installers, transporters and service and supply firms are ready to respond immediately to FEMA's request for proposals to provide temporary housing and ancillary services. FEMA's goal is to seek local companies within the disaster area for goods and services related to a specific disaster when practical and feasible.
